China – Australia free trade agreement has been signed

On Wednesday afternoon the 17th June 2015 the long-awaited free trade agreement between China and Australia was signed in Canberra.

This agreement will see 85% of all Australian exports entering China tariff-free. It will also see Australia removing the existing 5% tariff on Chinese electronics, whitegoods and other items.

This agreement will see trade free up between the two countries. This is agreement will be very beneficial to Australia as China is Australia’s top trading partner.

The Government has confirmed they’ve secured support from the Opposition to ensure passage of the ChAFTA through Parliament. Finer details of the agreement are still unknown and until they are published, we can’t say for certain how specific products will be treated.

According to the DFAT website the agreement should pass through Parliament in December or early 2016.
