![]() ![]() MARITIMO BUYS OUT MUSTANG - But future of sailing Queensland brand remains undecidied
|
|||||||||||||||||||
Bill Barry-Cotter, founder and CEO of luxury boat builder Maritimo, has announced that the company has purchased the assets of failed Queensland rival Mustang Marine.
Mustang fell into administration in March after owner Standard Bank withdrew financial support. Mr Barry-Cotter said that the successful bid was a joint venture between Steve Searle and Maritimo, adding that Mr Searle would take some plant and equipment and would have no further involvement in the business.
Maritimo has bought the intellectual property and boat moulds, and will maintain the Mustang brand identity. The company’s executives are continuing to study the Mustang business before deciding its future. Mustang distribution will continue through some existing dealers, and sold through Maritimo Dealers elsewhere, and Mustang boats will be on display at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show later this month.

FROM BUILDINGS TO BOATS- Real estate agent Ray White expands into the maritime sector

Selling a boat is never easy, especially given the economic milieu of the last 12 months. But a new auctioning scheme developed by the Ray White group could have owners hanging the ‘sold’ sign on their vessel faster than ever. “Previously, the only feasible option for boat sellers was to moor their vessel in a marina, which can take months to offload – now we have a viable and efficient method to bring boaties, brokers, investors, buyers and sellers together more effectively in the one place,” said one joint-owner of the newly-formed Ray White Marine, Andrew Bell.
Based at Marina Mirage on the Gold Coast, Ray White Marine will apply the auctioning model developed for properties to boats, kicking off proceedings on 19 June with its first live auction at the marina. A joint venture between Andrew and Greg Bell, directors of Queensland’s largest real estate firm, the Ray White Surfers Paradise Group and Marina Oceanus, owners of Marina Mirage, the company will put its considerable resources behind promoting the auctions to ensure buyers turn up and the boats are sold on the day.
Also backing the new auctioning firm is prominent marine industry personality Mark Ali, who is involved with Marina Oceanus.
“There are a growing number of people who are looking to offload vessels, upgrade or downgrade within an acceptable time frame - and now there is an avenue to facilitate this activity,” said Ali.“The Ray White Marine initiative will benefit vendors by showcasing vessels for sale on a scale that only a national brand could offer.”

RECORD-BREAKING RIBS - High speed British RIBS arrive in Australia
|
|||||||||||||||||||
British built Scorpion RIBs are making their high performance inflatable boats available in Australia for the first time, through regional distriubtor Scorpion RIBS Australia. The rigid bottomed rockets, which have hold speed records for the circumnavigation of the British Isles and the London to Monte Carlo run, will make their Southern Hemisphere debut at Queensland’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (20 to 23 May 2010), where the brand’s mid-range Scorpion Serket will be on display. While renowned for their speed, Scorpions are designed to be comfortable underway and can be used as tenders for superyachts. In addition to the 8.5-metre Serket the range includes the 6.5-metre Sport, 9.75-metre Selene and 10-metre closed-cabin Sting. |

YACHT SWAPS - Yachting's answer to the home exchange system has arrived in Australia
|

|
“A boat on a mooring, berth or trailer that’s not being used costs money and benefits no one,” says Andrew Young, founder of BVC International. His solution? An online boat exchange system that gives members access to boats similar to their all around the world.
Owners of anything from a 10-foot skiff to a 100-metre superyacht are eligible to join the program, which provides access to vessels in any of nine countries.
The scheme, which already has over 100 boats on its books in Australia alone, awards members with credits which can then be used to access to other members’ boats while travelling overseas. “Maybe you own a three-cabin cruiser in Auckland and travel on business many times a year,” says Young. “Instead of settling for an expensive hotel room in Melbourne, for example, you can cash in your credit for a a luxury three-cabin cruiser on a marina at Port Phillip Bay.”
Young says the annual membership fee costs less than one day on a typical charter boat, while boat booking fees are less than most hotel daily room rates.
