With the 2020 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race fast approaching, excitement is building for both participants and spectators alike.
After a lengthy consultation to determine whether the event would be cancelled due to COVID-19, the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) announced earlier this year the race would go ahead. With entries closing at the end of October, it was announced 100 yachts would participate in the race, a good amount considering the restrictions the global pandemic has placed on people around the world.
With COVID-19 still posing a risk, the event will see a number of changes including greater digital coverage, online team briefings and cancelled social events in the lead up to the race.
The 76th edition of the race will kick off this Boxing Day from Sydney Harbour! Throughout the years the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race has become an iconic sporting event within Australia, garnering huge public interest.
However, even with the obstacles faced this year, the annual event is still expected to bring in vast media coverage. We wish good luck to all of the participants.
