In our last e-shot we looked at Roll On/Roll Off being one of the easier ways to ship your boat. Another way to ship, especially for larger yachts is Lift On/Lift Off or LO/LO.
As independent NVOCC we have the ability to utilise a number of shipping line’s vessels and trade routes to transport your boat to any part of the world. Aurora work with experienced container lines, multipurpose and bulk carriers depending on the size of your boat, the destination, time restraints and of course your budget.
A common type of LO/LO carrier is frequently referred to as a ‘Liner’. This is a conventional container ship which runs like your local bus or train service. These carriers have a fixed voyage, meaning set port calls and regularly sailings (i.e weekly or fortnightly). By using liner vessels, we have the advantage of forecasting specific departure and arrival dates, meaning you can plan ahead with confidence.
The Lift on / lift off method works exactly how it reads. Your yacht is either lifted directly from the water or quay to the ships deck or to the underdeck hold. Prior to lifting your yacht, Aurora arrange a certified shipping cradle to be pre-lashed to the hull or pre-positioned on the deck depending on the make/model of your boat. What works best for a 40ft / 12 tonne sailboat will be different for a 70ft / 60 tonne cruiser.
Our experienced team work closely with the stevedores, surveyor and lashing crew to ensure all systems are carefully thought out before the yacht is presented alongside the ship. Once on-board, the yacht is sea fastened by our expert lashing crew in accordance with our load master/ marine surveyor to meet the Captains approval.
There are several other elements to consider when shipping your boat. Will you require shrink-wrapping, delivery crew, a tender boat or a customs broker? Aurora offer a full turn-key solution aimed to simplify the process and provide clients with peace of mind so they can focus on the real journey ahead.
