CRADLE TRANSPORT
Whilst we love the challenge of shipping your prized assets around the world, its not always the yacht itself that keeps us busy. This month we find ourselves charged with the responsibility of relocating the cradle for a luxury 45m luxury sail yacht from Australia to New Zealand in readiness for the vessels next yard period.
The cradle is quite unique in design and breaks down into modular units, making the task of relocation a little easier.
A timely reminder that we don’t only handle boats and yachts. If you have any ancillary equipment, parts and accessories, masts, or cradles to move. Don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss your needs.

MARINE TRANSIT INSURANCE: A GUIDE
By Craig Garmston, HWA Insurance
Importance of Purchasing Cargo Insurance
One of the most common complaints in the shipping industry is cargo damage. It’s often unavoidable and after it happens there’s always a lot of finger pointing and blame on others, but the reality is if you own the goods it’s your responsibility to insure them.
Cargo Insurance for Domestic and International Shipments
Cargo insurance, just like home/contents and vehicle insurance, is a form of insurance that mitigates the financial risk of any of your international or domestic shipments that are lost or damaged while in transit by road, sea, air or rail. It’s the responsibility of the shipper to insure their own cargo, and we highly recommend that you have cargo insurance in place for all of your shipments regardless of size and value.
There’s a misconception in the industry that a freight forwarder, freight company or shipping line will reimburse the cargo owner in the event of loss or damage in transit, and this is not true, so please make sure all of your cargo is insured.
We welcome you to contact our office to explore single transit and/or annual transit insurance options for you through our insurance partner Freight Insurance Services International.
Remember – if you’re buying, selling or relocating goods make sure you insure them!
If you’re not too concerned about loss or damage to your goods in transit you need to be mindful of General Average which is covered automatically through all good cargo insurance.
In brief, General Average is a principle of maritime law whereby all stakeholders in a sea venture proportionately share any losses resulting from vessel damage and/or a voluntary sacrifice of part of the ship or cargo to save the whole in an emergency.
For instance, should the crew jettison some cargo overboard to lighten the ship in a storm, the loss would be shared pro rata by both the carrier and the cargo owners.
Cargo Insurance for Cruisers and Yachts
As most boat owners know, pleasure craft insurance in most instances excludes cover for cruisers and yachts in transit by road and as cargo by sea both domestically and abroad.
It’s therefore essential that you have adequate cargo insurance to cover your boat whilst in transit, and also for loading and unloading on the transporting vehicle(s) and vessel(s).
We welcome you to contact our office to explore some competitive cargo and annual boat insurance options through our insurance partner Freight Insurance Services International.
